WHAT IS A TANKERMAN?

By providing product handling services to refineries, chemical plants, barge lines and terminals, tankermen play a critical role in the petroleum and chemical shipping industry. At Loadstar, our tankermen are specially-trained, Coast Guard-licenced professionals responsible for the transfer of chemicals on the inland waterways.

In this field, there are different types of tankermen, one being in-plant. An in-plant tankerman is dedicated to one specific site and works a shift schedule.

Responsibilities of an In-Plant Tankerman

At Loadstar, some of the responsibilities of an in-plant tankerman include conducting pre-transfer risk assessments, conducting barge inspections, developing cargo transfer plans, and evaluating and modifying cargo flow and barge mooring lines.

Serving as the Person-In-Charge (PIC) of the assigned vessel, all of the responsibilities of an in-plant tankerman center around ensuring the safe transfer of products to and from vessels per United States Coast Gard (USCG) regulations and company/customer guidelines.
